Let’s Get Together to Support Casey Gemma After a Life-Changing Spinal Cord Injury

Hello Beautiful People,

Today I have a special request from you as the incredible, supportive community that you are.

One of our own is in need of our help.

Casey is a special member of the How Do You Peel community. She is a close friend of mine and her yoga classes supported me through hard times. She is an incredibly inspiring, welcoming, loved, and strong member of the Yoga and Mountain biking community. As the founder of @bendyandsendy

Her energy is contagious and she has a gift of making people feel loved and comfortable.

On April 11, Casey was riding with friends when she crashed and suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury. Thanks to Devon Air Ambulance she was airlifted to Derriford Hostpital in Plymouth, where she underwent emergency surgery. On waking up from surgery, Casey and her family were given the news that she may never walk again. She currently has no feeling from the waist down and requires 24-hour support from hospital staff and her family.

After 11 days of recovery at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth Casey has moved to the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury. She will undergo 3-6 months of rehabilitation here. Once she is able to leave hospital, Casey's home will require specialist equipment to support her mobility.

Casey’s wonderful cousin set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to raise money to support her recovery. I am overjoyed to say the campaign has already received £54,000. This exceeds the original £50,000 target with donations flooding in from across the world. But I think we can do more. if we share this within our community we can spread the word and help this amazing human in her time of need.

The fund will go towards supporting Casey and her family. As explained on the campaign page "The money raised will help to alleviate the financial strain from both [Casey & her partner Jay] so they can focus on Casey's recovery and rehabilitation...donations will help with travel costs for Jay as the rehabilitation facility is over 150 miles away from their home in Cornwall... Further down the track, major adjustments will need to be made to their home to ensure it is wheelchair accessible and Casey will require specialist equipment installed so that it is safe for her to return home”.

Casey hopes to provide a donation to the Air Ambulance and various other organisations that will support her recovery.

Casey needs us now more than ever as she isolates for 10 days, due to COVID restrictions, in her new room at Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury. Please donate if you can whether it be large or small. https://gofund.me/69a029f1
