30 Days Of Yoga

Hello, & Welcome to "How Do You Peel?",

When going through my journey to improve my mental health and dealing with my anxiety and depression. There are many things that I do (or try to do) to maintain calmness, happiness & levelness with myself.

A few of things I do (again try to) are:

  • Keeping active

  • Drawing

  • Keeping my room tidy (this one is very hard for me, but "tidy room tidy mind"..... apparently)

  • Taking time off of my computer/phone

  • Therapy

  • Using my 5 senses to reduce anxiety

  • Yoga

Yoga was the first of my practices that I started to do on a regular basis to give myself a better sense of self. It is not just a practice of downward dog's and difficult "stretchy postures" (ehhemmm you do not have to be really flexible to do yoga, my Dad can now do the pigeon with a bit of practice after never doing yoga until a few months ago.) It is a practice of breathing, focus, mindfulness, good morals, positive values, offering good to the world, & the separation of your thoughts from your mind. "You are not your thoughts. You are the one that hears them." - Louise Claire Gates - PhD Fellow - Yoga Teacher - Mental Wellness Coach.

I have been having a hard time recently connecting with myself & being mindful. Slacking on my self care and wellbeing has a direct impact on my anxiety levels. I have been allowing my thoughts to mould with my mind and take over. It requires daily practice to keep up with these kinds of mindful activities. Listening to "The Happiness Lab" by Dr Laurie Santos has definitely reinstated this. (Highly recommend - thanks mum)

You may think that sounds cringe to say, but it is true. I have had times when Yoga has helped me appreciate myself, so much, to the point I have subconsciously, mid forward fold, hugged my legs and said "I love you" to myself.

The power that this feeling provides me is what I am hoping my "30 Days of Yoga" challenge will do for me. Help me separate my mind from my thoughts again, & love the present. I chose to do the Yoga with Adriene - Home Journey because firstly I love her voice, & secondly, it is free and easy to follow along with.

If you would like to join me I have made this Calendar that is available to download below. 30 days is a great amount of time to start a habit.

I wanted ensure I was keeping myself accountable so I already have my amazing friend @hannahkingfitness doing it with me. It would be great if you can join along too!

This PDF will provide you with the calendar I made to download and print off.

Here is the link of to the “Yoga with Adriene - Home” challenge that I am following along with.

I would love to know how Yoga has helped you in your mental health journey or even just in general? Leave a comment about it below and let me know.

I'm Going to go and get my Yoga on now, I hope you will join me.
